Everyone agrees accessibility matters. So why does so little change?

Four video call frames side by side. From left to right: Neil Milliken, a man with short spiky hair, clear-framed glasses and a green polo shirt; Antonio Vieira Santos, a man with dark-rimmed glasses and a maroon shirt, smiling slightly; Debra Ruh, a woman with long grey curly hair and red-framed glasses; and Stephanie Cadieux, a smiling woman with dark shoulder-length hair, glasses and a black top. A caption in the bottom left corner reads “Created on Riverside”

In a recent AXSChat episode, Canada’s Chief Accessibility Officer, Stephanie Cadieux, discussed the slow progress in accessibility despite widespread agreement on its importance. She emphasized the need for deliberate inclusion of disabled individuals in decision-making and advocated for accountability in accessibility standards, especially regarding artificial intelligence. Choices made in everyday meetings significantly impact accessibility outcomes.
