The world’s largest technology companies are from the US and China. Two of Europe’s most promising firms – Sweden’s Spotify and Germany’s Zalando – have a combined market value of just $42 billion, while Alibaba (China) and Facebook (US) have valuations of $480 billion and $550 billion respectively. Some argue that a stronger European influence would make a positive contribution to the future of the digital age and could mitigate against some of the current issues besetting the technology industry.
